After 4 weeks of training, we were finally able to put everything we had learned to practice during our field based trainings. Both the Community Economic Development and Youth Development programs split into two groups and headed to a different department of Peru for a week.
I was a part of the group YD group that went to the department of Ancash, quite possibly one of the most beautiful areas of Peru. That’s saying a lot though, everywhere in Peru is mouth-droppingly gorgeous.
The capital city, Huaraz is a popular backpacking destination and I’m pretty sure saw more Gringos there than during the entire time I’ve spent in Peru. This discovery led to the development of Gringo Bingo, which I will explain much later. It’s pretty self-explanatory though.
Nothing I could say about Ancash really would do it justice, so I’ll let my pictures do the talking. They are worth 1,000 words, right?
I don’t think the pictures even do the department justice.

Fun fact Emily, a Peruvian Peace Corps Volunteer is the highest Peace Corps Volunteer in the world. And yes, jokes are made quite often about that.
